Steven and Elyse Douglas each had several years of jewelry making experience before they met in a Sonoma, California jewelry studio in 1981. They have since honed their craft and developed a synergy that results in some of the most creative jewelry to be found in the Pacific Northwest.
Steven Douglas began his career in metals and lapidary in high school and was powerfully influenced through various mentors by the German tradition of pride in craftsmanship. He has a highly developed mechanical/technical sensibility. We sometimes call him our “Tech Wizard”.

Elyse Douglas was introduced to jewelry through a non-credit class at the University of Texas in Austin. Her style tends towards organic asymmetrical form and includes a passion for richly colored gems. Being the manufacturer of her own designs gives her control over the process that many jewelry designers lack. This allows her the ability to spontaneously adapt her pieces to her creative impulse as the work evolves.

Steven and Elyse both believe that it is important to continue to add techniques and technology to their resumes in order to maintain their competitive edge.
In recent years Douglas Fine Jewelry has added a Laser Welder to their studio to increase efficiency and compliment traditional torch work. Leading the march into 21st century jewelry design and manufacturing, they have also invested in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM).
All this means that if you can imagine it, Douglas Fine Jewelry Design can make it.
